History of the Gold French 20 Francs

Today, the coin is called “Napoleon” which is the colloquial term for a French gold coin. The Gold French francs were minted in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 40, 50, and 100. Due to this, they were issued during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte, the French military leader when they were initially minted as 20 or 40 francs. The denomination of these coins continued to be used through the 19th century. However, the early French coins were referred to as Louis (the name of eighteen French kings). The Gold Napoleons have proven over time to be more resilient than other gold coins to economic forces.

These coins are 90% pure, weigh 6.45 grams and contain 0.1867 troy ounces of gold.
