Johnson Matthey was founded in 1851 by two assayers from London. The company was appointed the official assayer and refiner for the Bank of England in 1852, establishing a long-lasting position in the banking and bullion industry. In the late 20th century, Johnson Matthey developed a reputation as one of the leading industrial refiners and suppliers of precious metals to a variety of industries. The company’s silver bars were known for their quality and purity, and they became a popular choice among investors and collectors including the Johnson Matthey 10 oz silver bar.
Highlights:
- 10 troy oz of .999 fine silver.
- Obverse will typically be stamped with the Johnson Matthey logo, the weight and purity of the silver, and a unique serial number.
- Reverse will vary. The bar you will receive may show a blank or JM repeated logo on its reverse.
- Bars are sourced through the secondary market and may have imperfections.
In 2014, Johnson Matthey sold its North American bullion minting facilities to Japan’s Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. This marked the end of an era for Johnson Matthey silver bars, and the company no longer produces them. Today, a Johnson Matthey 10 oz silver bar is considered to be a collectible. They are prized for their quality, purity, and historical significance.
